Waterfalls into swimming pools...Cascades dans Piscines

Building waterfalls into swimming pools is more challenging than falls into ponds.  Pool Falls have to be big so that you can swim under and into them.   Everybody like to take a "shower" under them and usually it is the first thing that you do when you jump into the pool, and for some the only thing.  The waterfall also has to have good sound to make attractive and inviting.  The sound should be directed and amplified toward the house and sitting areas.

Putting a waterfall on your pool increases the length season that it operates and increases the value because you don't have to swim to appreciate it,  since it can be run and enjoyed anytime even on cold days.
Building a waterfall into a swimming pool requires exacting talents.   It has to look good, natural and not loose any water.  It has to be physically separate from the pool and not cause any stress on the pool wall itself unless it is designed for that.   It has to have a full and separate foundation to below the frost line, to keep it standing level after many winters.
I've built many as you can see by these few photos and more and have not yet had any "trouble" of any kind.  When I get to design the waterfall before the pool is built, I design the pool or get the pool contractor to place a "cove" in it to facilitate the objectives of creating an echo chamber and swimming hole.

I build some waterfalls  on floating foundations and use a rubber liner to contain any leaking water.
My NWL waterfalls are permanent with 4-foot deep foundations separate from the pool, and totally water secure.

I had the pool designed and built with the waterfall in mind.

The pool wall is reinforced to support 10 tons of rock.

The biggest one I've built.

Papas; A waterfall in the shallower end of the pool, there's an underwater bench and a small cove. Because of the shallow depth we have to keep in mind head room when standing up!
